3 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Stick With In 2017

February 8, 2017

You have the “New Year, New Me” mentality, but how long does it stick with you? By this time most people that made New Year’s resolutions have already broken them. Don’t let that be you! Follow our guide to some great resolutions that are actually attainable.

The key to making a New Year’s resolution is to make a good one and be consistent. If you’ve been a couch potato for a while, making a resolution to run a marathon isn’t the best idea. You should start small and work your way up. This is the reason most people fail or only make it halfway to completing their resolutions. Rather than deciding to run a marathon, you should instead aim to begin walking a mile a day for a few days a week, then you can move on to running after a few weeks in. Consistency is always key.

Fad diets don’t work. We’ve all seen the commercials that scream “Lose 10lbs in one week!” truth is they aren’t effective and most importantly are very unhealthy for you if they do live up to their claim. So, what is a healthy amount of weight to lose per week? Research shows about 1-2 pounds is generally a healthy amount to lose in one week. If you’ve ever tried a fad diet you’ll also know that it’s pretty typical that you gain all the weight back that you lost within months, sometimes even weeks later. Bottom line is to lose weight and keep it off, you must eat the right portions of protein, vegetables and fruit and focus on a consistent workout routine to maintain healthy weight loss.

Get an accountability partner. Starting a new journey can be difficult without someone by your side. Whether it be a spouse, a best friend or even a group fitness class, having an accountability partner will make a new journey a little easier. Having someone to talk to that can relate to the new path you’ve chosen is important. They can be there for you when you’ve hit a plateau and feel like giving up. Having that someone to push you through and remind you why you started in the first place is key to sticking with your resolutions.
